Aisling O’Loughlin: “I can get the zip up in the morning, but by early evening it’s game over”
Aisling O’Loughlin is always so honest when it comes to parenting and nearly nine months after welcoming baby Joe, she has admitted that she still struggles to fit into her jeans.
It is not easy when you have to look after three kids, every mother knows this, but Aisling wants to stand up for the parent who is on to go all day, every day.
There is no escaping looking at toned abs on Instagram or Snapchat, but she is sparing a thought for the mummy tummies.
“As the svelte and the toned bunnies hop to the gym and show us their bare ab-ed results on social media, my poor ole tummy and me are just looking on wondering, ‘What about us?’
“Grant it, I never go the gym and barely get a moment to properly exercise, but damn it, I’m on the go the whole day long and usually the night too,” she said in her Mother of all Baby Columns in this month’s issue of RSVP Magazine.
She continues “Surely, nearly nine months on from baby Joe’s arrival, after all that hard work scooping poop, manic school runs, scrubbing honey stains, dressing, undressing messy toddlers, I could expect to fit into my old jeans?
“I can get the zip up in the morning, but by early evening it’s game over. Nothing but the jimmy-jams will do, combined with an audible exhalation of relief. So much for that dream of an Olivia Newton- John, Grease-style comeback in painted-on biker pants. Can you imagine if Sandy had turned up with a muffin-top and a busted zip to impress Danny in the final scene of Grease?”
“I’m not giving up just yet though. I hear squatting on the spot works a treat for toning and I’ll make more of an effort to get out walking with the madzers.
“Old jeans, I’m coming to get ya! This year we will be reunited; if I have to squat while feeding the baby, so be it,” said Aisling.
