Aisling O’Loughlin- Pregnancy Can Make You Smarter
Pregnant ladies of Ireland you need to listen up, when you tell your husband that you are always right, you are not lying!
New research suggests that expectant mother’s brains sharpen during their third trimester so all the fathers-to-be out there need to be wary of some very clever ladies with bumps.
“It was a handy way to get out of sticky situations but, in fairness, the “baby brain” excuse never did us mothers any justice.
“According to a new study from the University of Richmond in Virginia, women’s brains sharpen from the third trimester on, improving strategic thinking, judgment and empathy,” explained Aisling O’Loughlin.
“An analysis of data published in New Scientist magazine concluded: ‘There is now a large body of evidence that a woman’s intellect does not suffer in any way after having her baby.’ If anything, the study showed that mothers become more employable after pregnancy as their postnatal brain is re-wired to cope with increased necessity to plan and to multi task,” said the Xposé host in her Mother of All Baby Columns in RSVP Magazine.
The study shows that the brain gets bigger in order to help the pregnant woman to deal the increased amount of stress that is experienced during the final three months.
“The findings counter-balance previous research which discovered that brains can shrink by up to seven per cent during pregnancy.
“Later studies found the brain in fact goes on to expand as the pregnancy progresses in line with the mother’s improved ability to handle stress,” continued Aisling.
