It may have been Friday 13th, but Frasier star Kelsey Grammer, 57, and his wife Kayte Walsh, 31, only enjoyed good luck as their new baby daughter, Faith Evangeline Elisa Grammer, came into the world. Weighing in at 6 lbs 2 oz, the baby girl is the couple’s first child together, although her arrival was tinged with sadness as she originally had a twin brother.
“We were ecstatic earlier this year, when we announced that Kayte was carrying twins. Tragically we lost the little boy shortly thereafter. This was not something we cared to make known publicly at the time. It was unspeakably painful and we know that people will understand our desire to keep the news private then, as we know they will respect our privacy in this matter now. A glorious birth with a lingering sadness is ours today. We choose to celebrate the life that has been given us. Kelsey and flight attendant Katye were married in February 2011 at the Longacre Theatre in New York, and they celebrated the reception at the Plaza Hotel. The ceremony took place two weeks after the actor divorced his third wife Camille. Faith is his fifth child from four different mothers as he already has two adult daughters, actress Spencer Grammer and Kandace Greer from previous relationships, and a daughter, Mason Olivia, 10, and son, Jude Gordon, 7, from his marriage to Camille. In addition, in the early 1990s, he filed for an annulment from his second wife Leigh-Anne Csuhany, who was was three months pregnant. Kelsey filed for custody of the unborn child, but after Leigh-Anne attempted suicide and was put under psychiatric observation, the pregnancy was terminated.
Sadly, there have been several other tragedies in Grammer’s life. His estranged father was shot dead in 1968, his younger sister Karen was abducted, raped and murdered by notorious killer Freddie Glenn, and in 1980, his twin half-brothers Billy and Stephen died in an accident while scuba-diving – believed to have been killed by sharks. In addition his close friend and producer of Frasier David Angell died in the 9/11 attacks.
Kelsey and Katye announced her first pregnancy last August, but sadly that pregnancy ended in miscarriage a month or so later. Happily, the arrival of baby Faith gives the family something new and lovely to focus on, as they revealed in their statement.
