BREAKING: At least 1 dead after blast rips through holiday hotel

Multiple deaths are feared after a huge blast ripped through a busy hotel in a popular tourist resort.

The horror explosion happened at the Riu Hotel, St James, in Jamaica’s famous Montego Bay on Thursday afternoon, reports The Daily Star.

At least one person – believed to be a member of staff – was killed although earlier reports state another two people are dead.

Holidaymaker Chris Ridley, who was staying in the hotel, told Daily Star Online: “We weren’t told a great deal, just ‘pack your bags, you are being evacuated’.

“It’s a bit of a nightmare really.”

The explosion was reportedly caused by a faulty boiler.

Authorities have closed now closed the resort while investigators try to work out exactly what caused the explosion.

Jamaica is a hugely popular destination for tourists, attracting hundreds of thousands to its sandy beaches every year.
