Bridal Beauty: Micro Needling ahead of the big day!
With a wedding looming ever closer, my skincare regime has kicked up another notch.
I love all things skincare, and am a huge fan of treatments like Image peels, but like an adrenaline junkie looking for the next high, I’m always looking for the next amazing treatment, and for quite some time, my sights have been firmly set on micro-needling.
Yes, I said it. I was excited to have a roller full of needles all over my face, it may sound extreme, but this is a treatment that will see results.
Suitable for all skin types, micro needling is designed to improve skin texture, restore skin tightness and firmness, reduce wrinkles and fine lines, pigmentation and scarring.
My main concerns are preventative anti-ageing, fine lines and also some mild pigmentation under my eyes.
After chatting with the Adare Clinic, the date was set, and I was ready to see what all the fuss was about for myself. The clinic recommended I opt for Fractional RF (Radio Frequency) with needling treatments, this is basically a more advanced but less invasive form of micro needling, whereby a handheld device with microneedles is pressed against the skin, sending radiofrequency energy to multiple layers below the surface, heating the tissue to promote new collagen growth.
The combination of the Radio Frequency and needling stimulates the body’s natural collagen and healing processes, without the downtime of more invasive procedures.
On the day of the treatment, a topical anaesthetic was applied to my cleansed skin and left for thirty minutes to ensure my skin was numb before the treatment began.
Then it was time to begin, the roller was moved vertically and horizontally across my skin. And while it’s not painful, I was glad of the anaesthetic, as some parts of your face can be quite uncomfortable. Especially areas with less fat like your forehead, and nose.
However, it was over extremely quickly and not uncomfortable enough to put me off. While I am not sensitive to product or treatments themselves, I have extremely touch sensitive skin, so having seen some of the immediate after photos of traditional micro needling I was fully prepared for the worst when I looked in the mirror after the treatment.

It wasn’t as bad as I thought I would be, but I’m not going to lie I looked a little crazy. One part of my face, visibly had the square shape of the roller scattered across my skin, giving it an almost patchwork appearance as I made my way back home. My top tip for those with reactive skin like mine would be to drive to your appointment, relying on public transport to get home was a rookie mistake on my part!

However, initial embarrassment aside, within the hour, the marks had completely gone, leaving my skin just slightly pinker than normal, but with an unmistakable glow and by the next morning my skin was 100 per cent back to normal, and no one any the wiser what I had done.
You are advised if you can, to go without make-up, or opt for mineral make-up in order to let your skin breathe and heal. In addition, it’s extremely important that you keep your skin clean following treatments like this, so ensure you are cleansing thoroughly but gently and do not let any dirty make-up brushes near your skin. And as with any more invasive facial treatment like peels or needling, daily SPF is a must.
A course of three sessions about four weeks apart is usually recommended for optimum results, and while results won’t be fully visible until up to five months after your treatment, there has already been an improvement in the overall appearance of my skin, which looks fresher and more even.
So with two more treatments to go and five months until the big day, I’m quietly confident my wedding day glow is going to be extra special!
