We talk to Kate Lynch to find out her secrets to success…..
What would you say makes your business unique?
The clothes in the boutique are unique, and that’s down to my own personal taste. I travel to Europe to source stock and to make sure that I bring something different into the store. My prices are also very competitive.
Have you found that social media has helped your business?
Absolutely! Facebook has really worked for me. I make a massive effort to make sure that all stock is put up on our page. I take a lot of time taking photographs to make sure that all of our clothes look amazing for our customers on Facebook.
What is your favourite part of your job?
My favourite part is just coming in and working with the customer. I chose the products, so I love selling them because I know I would wear them myself.
What would you say has been your biggest challenge to date with the boutique?
Taking that step and leaving my job – going out on your own can be a scary place. I opened up in the recession, so I had that worry of ‘would this work?’ But yes it did, and I’m established three years now.
To take that step you must have had something driving you. What was your motivation?
I think being my own boss was my biggest motivation. You’re working in companies with rules and regulations, and I just wanted to get out on my own. I always wanted to have my own business and to work for myself. I definitely get more from it than doing it for somebody else.
What’s your next big goal?
My next big goal is just pushing my Facebook page and my sales, getting more customers in and going further afield outside my local area.
So do you plan on opening another boutique?
I wouldn’t say no to it!
