CAR OF THE MONTH – BMW X5
The most recent X5 boasts all the qualities SUV customers are looking for: a comfortable driving position, space and a luxurious interior.
Engine wise, there are three options. The smallest four-cylinder engine doesn’t feel underpowered; the xDrive 40e is a plug-in hybrid that pairs a 2-litre petrol engine with an electric motor which provides a seamlessly powerful drive; and the standard V8 petrol is massively quick when your foot is on the accelerator. Whichever engine you choose, the BMW X5 is one of the best-handling SUVs available.
Similar to all good SUVs, the X5’s driving position is nice and high giving the driver excellent visibility. Front and rear parking sensors also come as standard. In terms of technology the X5 has BMW iDrive, which is easily one of the best infotainment systems available.
Internally, the X5 has more than sufficient space for passengers and boasts numerous smart storage options around the cabin. Boot space isn’t an issue either, with a 650-litre load bay when the rear seats are in place. So you can easily fit two to three large suitcases or two large prams!
There are two trim levels to choose from – the SE and M Sport. But choosing the SE model means you won’t be missing out as lots of extras come as standard including leather upholstery, electrically adjustable heated front seats, sat-nav, front and rear parking sensors, automatic lights and wipers, 18in alloy wheels, DAB radio, Bluetooth and USB and AUX sockets. An impressively long list!
The X5 is competitively priced amongst its rivals and while it’s not cheap to buy, it is worth every penny.
