Derry City has been stunned with the news of the tragic death of team captain Ryan McBride.
The 27-year-old is understood to have been found dead in his bedroom earlier this evening, according to The Sun.
The cause of death is not known at this stage.
Ryan led the Candystripes to victory for the fourth time this season against Drogheda United, just 24 hours earlier.
PFA Ireland said in a statement: “ We are shocked to hear this evening the passing of our member and @derrycityfc Captain Ryan McBride.
“Our thoughts are with his family.”
Ireland winger James McClean will be given special dispensation to leave the team’s training base to attend the funeral this week.
