Absolute tragedy occurred this weekend when a teen couple died a day apart, after the jeep they were travelling in crashed with a truck.

Gary Kelly (19) died at the scene of the fatal accident on Friday, while his girlfriend Delia Keary (18) died a day later in hospital.

According to The Irish Independent, Gary and Delia had been together since their schooldays.

It is understood that the happy couple were travelling to Kerry for a weekend break when the crash occured.

Tributes were paid to both teens by Gary’s employer, Jerry O’Keeffe.

Having finished school, Garry had been in training as an apprentice electrician.

“They were going out for maybe five years, young school sweethearts I suppose,” Mr O’Keeffe told Independent.ie.

“It’s very sad, it’s shocking,” he added.

Mr O’Keeffe said Gary’s grandmother rang him during the work day on Friday to wish him well ahead of the trip.

Delia, who was a passenger in the car, was rushed to hospital with critical injuries after the crash which occurred on the N21 at Wards Cross on the Limerick side of Abbeyfeale, Co. Limerick at around 7.40pm.

Delia died in hospital on Saturday.
