RSVP has got the inside scoop ahead of the Galway Races next week, judge Mandy Maher has exclusively revealed her top tips for taken home the coveted "Best Dressed Lady" title on Ladies Day.

From executing the killer look, right down to your finger nails, the director of Catwalk Modelling Agency and her fellow judges will inspect the style lovers of Ireland from head to toe.

If you want to get ahead of the crowd, these amazing tips will have you sorted on the day, ssssshhhhhh don't tell anybody!

1. Know your Audience and Be Aware of Where You Are

Potential winners need to realise that they are at a race meeting and not a night out on the town, there is a big difference, know what to wear to both of these!

2. What Always Works

I would go always with something classical, classic looks never fail and are always a good choice especially for first timers.

3. Be Prepared

You have to take the weather into consideration, if it is raining there is nothing as bad as looking like somebody who is miserable and uncomfortable instead of being there to enjoy yourself.

If you need to put a coat on, put one on!

4. What Does it Take to Win?

With the full overall package, the judges are really looking at everything. I love to see somebody who shows a little bit of personality in their outfit choice.

In particular, the lady who won last year, Helen Murphy from Cork, stood out a mile because she oozed confidence.

5. What are the Judges Looking For?

We take everything into consideration.

  1. Is it appropriate?
  2. Has the outfit been put together correctly?
  3. Have you accessorised properly?

6. The Hat

The hat is a major factor in the outfit and will really highlight everything on the day. No outfit should be without a hat on Ladies day.

7. The Package

We look at everything, so is your hair, make-up and nails all done to perfection? And always remember to watch your fake tan!

8. What Does Mandy Look for on the Day?

I’m always looking for something different, this is my eleventh year back on the judging panel so I try capture something unique but classic.

Classic outfits never fade and each year they are similar enough with a little bit of changes here and there but nothing major.

9. What Should You Avoid?

Long dresses are an absolute no no, there should be no strapless dresses and definitely avoid something that is exceptionally short.

I remember one year there was a lady who was really really well dressed and she would have been in the running for the final but we noticed that the top of her hem on the dress was hanging down.

Another year I saw a lady with very bad shoes, she had scuff marks all over them.

10. Top Tips from Mandy

If want to win best dressed you have to be meticulous about your outfit, be able to carry yourself and show off your personality.
