One To Watch: Writer And Blogger Christine Foley

This week’s One to Watch goes to Novelist in the making and creator of Yellow Polka Dot Bikini Blog Christine Foley who chats to RSVP’s Susan Knox about her style Icon Mother and her combined love of fashion and writing.

Hi Christine! First of all, can you tell us a bit about yourself?

I am originally from Kilkenny but I am currently living and working in Dublin. I moved back to Dublin last year after completing a Masters in Creative Writing at Oxford University. I am currently working on my first novel and am a manager in Brown Thomas.

How did you first get into blogging?

I started Yellow Polka Dot Bikini Blog when I was sick with pneumonia in December 2015. Friends and family had often mentioned that I should start one and while lying in bed unable to do anything else I decided to give it a go. I was really surprised by the reaction I got and it just grew from there.

What is your go to outfit for a night out?

I work for Karen Millen so it is often something I’ve picked up there. I love to wear dresses going out and I am big fan of anything sparkly. At the moment I am loving bardot tops with skinny jeans. My go to shoes are a pair of suede over the knee boots that dress up everything!

What has been your biggest achievement to date?

In terms of the blog I was shortlisted in the Littlewoods Ireland Blog Awards last summer. I was so proud of this because I had only been blogging for about six months and I was up there with some really big names. My other achievements are my degree in English from Trinity College and my Masters from Oxford.

Who are your biggest style influences in terms of fashion?

As cheesy as it sounds I have to say my Mum. She has always been an inspiration when it comes to style. She makes it look so easy!

Where would you like to see yourself in five years time?

I am currently working on my first novel and would love to see success with that. I would also love to have lots more followers on my blog.

It seems that every young girl aspires to be a blogger these days – what tips would you give to someone wanting to start their own blog but might be a little nervous?

First of all make sure you do it because it’s something you enjoy, it might look like all glamour and freebies but it actually takes up a lot of time and requires a lot of work. I love writing content and taking pictures. Even though Yellow Polka Dot Bikini Blog is a hobby I still put a lot of work into it.

Is there any certain trends that you despise?

I don’t really hate anything, trends tend to grow on me eventually. However, I like when people wear what they’re comfortable in and have their own unique style.

How would you describe your style?

I’m quite a colourful person and I’m rarely seen in black. I love an oversized faux fur coat in winter and denim cut offs in summer. I like stand out pieces that make me say ‘wow, I’ve got to have that.’ If something is leopard print, well, that helps!

What’s the best thing about what you do and why?

I work in fashion during the day and write in the evenings so I’m very happy at the moment. The blog allows me to combine both my love for writing and my love for fashion. I’ve met lots of amazing people through the blog and collaborate.
