With the Junior Cert and Leaving Cert having started the stress levels in Irish households are at an all time high. While the teenagers struggle with the horror that is doing an exam, parents also have to deal with the anxiety and pressure that goes part and parcel with study.

To make every parents life that little bit easier we have made a quick list and tips to make the first two weeks in June slightly easier.

1. Listen

Listen to your son and daughter and if they need anything you have to be there for them. Sometimes they might just want to vent about English poets or maths theorems. Let them talk and it will relieve some of the pressure.

2. Don't Nag

Don't be giving out during exam time, the clothes on the floor are not the most important issue in the world and having a bit of junk food won'r ruin anybody's life.

3. Be Prepared

Have the supplies of pens, tipp-ex and rulers ready to go and be available in case he/she might need a lift home from school.

4. Make Lists

Hang up the exam timetable and make list of what is needed for each individual exam. Take a look in the school bag and ensure everything is packed.

5. Make the House as Quiet as Possible

Calm down with the hoover and keep the guests to a minimum, the smallest thing can really stress out a poor 17 year old revising French verbs.

6. Facilitate Relaxation Time

Maybe your child won't want to talk about the exam and that's okay too, leave them to their own devices with the TV or the laptop because it is very important to unwind after an exam too.

7. Don't Make Things Worse

If an exam goes badly then leave it in the past, there is no point crying over spilled milk. It is important to put them to the back of your mind and focus on the next paper.

8. At the End of the Day, it is Just an Exam

There is only so much preparation that can go an exam and on the day things might not go to plan.
