Princess Margaret’s former husband, Lord Snowdon, has passed away peacefully, aged 86. today.

The sad news of his death has been confirmed by the photographic agency he worked for.

“The photographer, born Anthony Armstrong-Jones, died peacefully at his home on Friday, said Camera Press,” reports the BBC this afternoon.

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the Queen had been informed of the harrowing news.

The late Princess Margaret, only sister of Queen Elizabeth II married the photographer Antony Armstrong-Jones at Westminster Abbey, on 6 May 1960.

Their big wedding was the first ceremony was the first royal wedding to be broadcast on television, and it attracted viewing figures of 300 million worldwide.

After 16 years of marriage, the royal pair announced their plans to separate and the divorce was finalised in 1978.

Lord Snowdon later went on to remarry.

Princess Margaret died 15 years ago in the King Edward VII Hospital, London, on February, 9 2002 at the age of 71, after suffering stroke.

Her funeral took place on February, 15 2002 on the 50th anniversary of her father's funeral.
