Ronan O’Gara is set to be a free man of Cork City following a motion from Cork County Council.
The prestigious honour was announced following a meeting this evening.
Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Des Cahill, revealed the good news after much speculation around the country today.
The father of four is being honoured for his glittering career on the rugby field for both Munster and Ireland.

ROG was quick to thanks his fans for all of their support over the years in an emotional statement.
“Thanks to the people of Cork who have always backed me.
“Proud of where I come from.
“Very humbled and honoured,” he said on his Twitter.
Ronan, who is currently living and working in Paris, is expected to make the trip to his home county for a special ceremony in the coming months.
