Teresa Mannion reveals the secrets behind her weight loss
Some like to hit the gym or go for a brisk walk, while others do Pilates, go dancing or have personal trainers to keep them motivated and in shape. We find out how the stars like to work up a sweat – and they share their top tips for staying active, relieving stress and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
You lost a stone recently, have you implemented a big change in diet?
I have noticed that I have been toning up and losing weight while training for Dancing with the Stars so I have started to eat a bit better. I have been watching my carb intake, eating a lot of salads and I have cut white bread out of my diet. Bread has always been my number one enemy; anytime I have a slice of bread my stomach instantly bloats. I am more aware of my portion size and losing weight has a feel-good factor.
What exercise do you do?
I am not on treadmills, doing circuit training or running marathons, I am just moving around for a few hours every day. The whole body gets exercised by dancing and it is great. Everyone should dance.
Do think there is a connection between body and mind?
Absolutely, they are totally connected. The mind/body connection has almost been proven scientifically and there is no question that they both influence each other. I am mentally exhausted as well as physically drained from the live shows; it is quite daunting every week. However, getting fit and doing exercise is what helps me cope with the stress of it all.
Are you happy with your weight right now?
I really am and it is great to see my figure the way it is now. I am looking at myself in mirrors all day in the dance studio and I have got my shape back. I feel like I have returned to the way I was in my late 20s or early 30s, before I had children. I wasn’t hugely overweight, but I definitely had a bit of padding.
Will you be continuing the weight loss process?
For sure, and I will continue to dance in some shape or form because it doesn’t feel like a huge effort to exercise. It is up to me to keep this going and commit to exercising, and watch what I am eating. Obviously, I won’t be able to move as much as I do now so it will be a bit of a challenge to stay nice and trim.
