He was one of the hunkiest actors around, but Matthew McConaughey has shown his dedication to his art by his shockingly thin appearance as he arrived on the set of his current film, The Wolf of Wall Street.
The Texan was gaunt and the muscles and the chiselled good looks that made him famous were absent, as he gears up for his next role as an AIDS sufferer in The Dallas Buyer’s Club. The film is based on the real life story of Ron Woodruff from Dallas, who contracted HIV through drug use in the 1980s.
Eyebrows were first raised when Matthew arrived at the New York screening of his new film Killer Joe last month looking visibly thinner. By then, the usually hunky actor had lost over 15lbs already, and revealed that he was planning to lose a further 15 over the next six weeks – which he has clearly done.
’I'm playing a guy who was sick and would have loved to have been healthier but wasn’t,” he said recently. “‘For me, it’s more of a mental thing than a physical thing. I’ll get down to the weight I need to get to. I’m on my way, and it’s what I need to do for the job. It’s a bit of a spiritual cleanse, mental cleanse. I’m drinking a lot of tea. It takes a while for your body to understand that it has to feed off of itself and that you’re not going to give it something else from the outside.
The 42-year-old actor was accompanied by his new wife Camila, 30, at the screening last month, who is now pregnant. She showed off her emerging bump in a green and purple bandage dress.
Well done to Matthew for his dedication to his art as losing weight is not easy. However, we can’t wait to see him back to the way he used to look, and for old times’ sake, here we present a pic of what he looked like when he played a stripper on Magic Mike. Just so you can compare, like
