There is no surprises that the Volkswagen Golf is the most searched for car amongst women in Ireland at the moment, as it is also the most searched for car for men in Ireland, and has been for the last two years running.

The Volkswagen Golf is still the firm favourite among female car buyers on Carzone. It’s stylish yet practical and great to drive. The biggest rival to the Golf is the Ford Focus, and it comes in as the second most popular car. The Ford Focus, with its five-star EuroNCAP rating and is a very reliable choice. Space is an important factor with females too with the Nissan Qashqai crossover coming in third. It’s an ideal family car; sensibly priced, inexpensive to run and well-built.

The Opel Astra and Ford Fiesta follow in fourth and fifth with the former long being a firm favourite among Irish car buyers. The Opel Astra is good to drive with sharp handling, it’s economical and a good family car option with its five-star EuroNCAP rating. The Ford Fiesta is one of the most popular Supermini’s, with its good looks, decent overall value and inexpensive running costs it’s no surprise it’s a very desirable option.

Next comes the Toyota Yaris, a quirky supermini, its reliable, easy to drive and well equipped.

The Volkswagen Passat is still a firm favourite for female drivers. Not only is the Passat sophisticated from the inside out, it’s comfortable to drive and a clear leader in the large saloon segment. The Audi A4 is also a popular choice for females, it’s stylish, spacious and with strong resale values, it’s definitely one to consider.

A rival to the Volkswagen Passat, Toyota features again in the top 10 with the Avensis. A big seller in Ireland, It’s economical, reliable and well-priced.

Last but not least, we’ve got the Volkswagen Polo, a rival to the Ford Fiesta and the Toyota Yaris, it’s sophisticated, stylish and it looks and feels very much like a small Volkswagen Golf.

What is best car for first time driver living in the city?

A good option for a first time driver would be the likes of a 1-0 litre Nissan Micra or a Ford Fiesta. Both are popular Supermini’s and an ideal first car.  Both would also be an ideal size for parking in the city!
