Van Halen Star Mourns Death of Two-Week-Old Grandson
Former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony is grieving the loss of his 2-week-old grandson, after his death from heart disease.
The musician opened up about the death of little Rex Becerra, the son of his eldest daughter, Elisha, in a Facebook post.
“I recently lost my grandson Rex after turning just two weeks and one day old. We are tremendously proud of Rex,” he wrote.
“In the short time on earth he left a lasting impression that our family will cherish.”
The family opened up about the death in a fundraising page with the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital, noting that the boy was “quickly diagnosed with Heart Disease” after his birth on March 20th.
“Within 9 hours of birth he was transported to two hospitals and ultimately landed at Children’s Hospital LA where he underwent open heart surgery,” the family wrote on the page.
They explained that although the surgery was successful, little Rex never recovered from the procedure.
He passed away on April 4th.
“After watching him decline to a condition we understood he could not retune, we decided to hold him in our arms while life support was removed and he peacefully went to join the angels in heaven,” the family continued.
In his post, Anthony announced that he would participating in the hospital’s Walk L.A. in June to support the facility. He invited the public to donate to his family’s team, “Rex and the Heart Beaters.”
Anthony was a member of the famous rock band until 2006, according to Billboard.
Our thoughts are with the family at this heartbreaking time…..
