He’s our first love, the person who has our back no matter what obstacles life throws at us over the years. So with Fathers’ Day fast approaching, there’s no better time to show our daddy how great he is. We caught up with some famous faces to hear about their father/daughter relationship, what makes their bond so strong and whether they share any similar traits...

Brian and chloe Ormond

Brian on Chloe:

Do you see much of yourself in her?

Chloe is very outgoing and friendly, she is also well mannered and I would like to think that is what people think of me.

What other characteristics do you think you passed onto her?

She is a young lady now and I cannot believe she is turning 16 this year; She’s a people’s person and when it comes to sports or singing and dancing, she plays them all and tries a bit of everything so she is never tied down to just one thing. Chloe is an all-rounder, she definitely reminds me of myself.

Would you say that you are a protective father?

I am protective, but I give her enough space to do what she likes to do. I like to know where she is and how she is getting home, if I can help out in any way then I will. I always like to know that she is being looked after, but at the same time, I need to give her a chance to grow up herself. Boys and girls are different though and you need to be a little more cautious, but I think that is down to the father/daughter bond.

Do you see yourself as being a similar parent to your own folks?

My parents very much the same as I was with Chloe, they were very easygoing and were more like my friends than my mam or dad. I felt like I could approach them if something was up and even in the worst case scenario, I always knew I was able to confide in them. I wouldn’t have to hide anything. I am glad that I have achieved that with Chloe too and she can chat to me or her mother because she has a great relationship with both of us.

What are your hopes for Chloe in the future?

I want to her to be happy in whatever she does and to give herself the best opportunity in life. I always tell her how important her education is and if she does well in school then I have no problem in letting her do any activities outside of that. We are blessed that she is so focused and has done so well.

Chloe on Brian:

How would you describe your dad in one sentence?

Very funny and he is always up for a laugh.

What traits or characteristics do you both share?

We are both jokers and we are always messing, that is our main similarity. My dad is also a very good singer and I love performing too.

Does he ever offer you tips?

If I have singing practicals at school, I would practice in front of him. I would tell him what songs I was thinking of doing and he is always there to help me choose the right one.

Has your dad done anything to embarrass you?

He is always trying to embarrass me, and he is very quick to catch me out if I say something. Whenever we spend time together, he does something to mortify me. If I get a text off somebody, he would always say, “Oh, is that your boyfriend”, trying to make me blush.

What is his most typical or overused phrase?

He always says, “I need a power nap” or “I am going to sleep for ten minutes.”

What is the best advice he has ever given you?

He tells me not to worry too much or not to overthink situations because I tend to do that a lot especially with my Junior Certificate exams coming up. He is a very positive person and that really helps me a lot.

Does he have any bad habits that you would love to change or any bug bears?

I don’t think I would like to change anything about him because everything he does is quite funny and I find him very entertaining. But if I wasn’t in the mood to mess he would continue to annoy me even more, just to get on my nerves.

Does he have any pet names for you?

He calls me “Princess Chloe”.

What do you call him? Dad or Daddy?

I just call him Dad or if I want something, I would say “Daaaaaaad”. He always replies saying, “What do you want now?”
