2FM Presenter Announces He Is Leaving The Station After 21 Years
2FM presenter Will Leahy has made an announcement that he will be leaving the radio station after working there for 21 years.
The 2FM presenter took to his Facebook page to share an emotional message with his followers in relation to the news,
However, it is not all bad news as the broadcaster is not leaving radio entirely and will be hosting a weekday morning slot on RTE Gold.
In the post Will outlined the news,
“So, I’ve a bit of news. This Sunday at 6 p.m., I will broadcast my final show on 2FM. 21 years, 2000-ish shows, 45,000-ish songs and one fairly worn pair of headphones.
“I’m not going very far as I’m shifting full-time to RTE Gold. Without doubt it is an emotional time as I have wanted to work for 2FM since I was a small boy and finally getting to work there was the equivalent of playing for Man United; it was a dream come true.
The 2FM favourite outlined how lucky he was in his message,
“Very few get to do it, and I have never taken for granted the great privilege and honour it is to work for the station I have loved all my life. I used to religiously tape Larry Gogan’s chart show in the 80s, cut out his voice and intro the songs myself on a Maxell C60 cassette.”
He spoke honestly the decision and how it will be difficult to say goodbye,
“For now, tune in to 2FM this weekend – I can’t promise not to cry but will do my best to hold it together. And if you have ever listened to me at all in the 21 years, I really appreciate it. I consider working for the national broadcaster to be a huge privilege and hope to continue to make programmes that you will want to listen to and enjoy.”
Will Leahy will most definitely be missed as he is a firm favourite on the national station.
