5 Dehydrated and Worm Infested Irish Puppies Stuffed in a Box for Deportation
Gardaí from Stores Street Garda Station seized 5 puppies which were hidden in a cardboard box in the back of a van attempting to board a ferry at Dublin Port last week.
Gardaí were checking the contents of the van as part of Operation Seaport.
The 5 puppies, aged no older than 6 weeks of age, appeared to be a terrier type cross breed and are now in the care of the DSPCA Veterinary Team where they are being treated for serious worm infestation and some dehydration.
This is just another case of illegal smuggling of underage puppies, and the obvious disregard for the animal’s health and welfare is of great concern to the DSPCA.
The DSPCA would like to once again thank the Garda from Stores Street Garda Station for their vigilance in these cases.
For anyone interested in finding out more about the issues of the illegal puppy trade the DSPCA are hosting a two hour conference on Thursday 6th October 2016 at 7.00pm in the Mason Hayes Curran Auditorium, UCD Law School, Belfield, Dublin 4. Booking for this free event is compulsory.
