Kym Owens, who suffered serious head and facial injuries, has put up pictures on social media following her horrific ordeal.

The 18-year-old from Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, was found unconscious near her student accommodation in Maynooth, Co Kildare on November 20 last year.

Kym suffered injuries including two broken eye sockets, a fractured jaw, a broken nose and she lost several teeth.

It emerged that she had been released from James Connolly Memorial hospital in Blaschandstown last month after being in a coma for some time.

This week, the brave teenager posted a picture with a friend where she was smiling and seems to be on the mend, although it is uncertain as to when the posted picture was taken.

The popular student's post got hundreds of likes with friends wishing her well and people commenting that they were so happy to see her back living life again after her horrendous ordeal.

Gardai, who initially believed the injuries were consistent with an assault, still do not know how exactly what happened to her.

Gardai also probed whether she had been struck by a car or collapsed and fell to the ground.

It is still unknown as to what actually happened to Kym, but we're so glad to see she's doing great.
