Dunnes Stores and Tesco both revealed today that they would continue to pay their workers despite Storm Ophelia .

Most supermarket chains and large stores announced last night that they would remain closed today, or else closed midway through the day due to storm Ophelia while many other employers advised staff to stay at home.

Lidl, Aldi, Debenhams, Dunnes Stores, Penneys , Brown Thomas, Arnotts, Marks and Spencer and many Supervalu stores were among stores closed today.

And both Dunnes Stores and Tesco have already announced that all staff will be paid for today.

Taking to social media, Dunnes posted:

“Dunnes Stores have confirmed that all staff rostered to work 16/10/17 will be paid as normal and that Dunnes Stores Shop & Save vouchers due to expire on the 16 Oct are extended for use up to end of business 18 Oct 2017. #Ophelia”

While Tesco issued a similar update, writing:

“All staff rostered to work today will be paid in full, even if they were unable to come in due to the weather. No colleagues will be out of pocket. We are encouraging colleagues to make whatever decision is best for them, either going home or staying in the store until the storm passes.”

Fair play to them.
