With thousands of homes left without power after Hurricane Ophelia hit Ireland on Monday and Storm Brian approached the country last night, the ESB have been left in high demand.

French electricity crews have now been flown over to Ireland in order to help with the chaos.

According to The Irish Mirror, more than 1,000 members of France's electricity company, Électricité de France are doing their bit to help restore electricity to Irish homes and businesses.

They are working in connection with the ESB as well as defence forces and other overseas utilities.

Hundreds of thousands of homes were left without power on Monday and the ESB have stated Storm Brian hampered with their efforts of restoring power.

The total number of places without electricity currently stands at 22,000.
