Glamorous and stylish ladies dressed in chic seasonal looks, were out in force to enjoy the wonderful surroundings of The Shelbourne Hotel. The afternoon began with a champagne reception kindly supported by M&S after which a chic fashion show took place with looks from Vanity Fair, Madhatter and Frewen & A
Guests who attended on the day included Miriam Ahern and Terry Mc Coy, Georgina Byrne, Alan Hughes, Karl Broderick, Blathnaid Ni Chofaigh, Ciara O’Callaghan, Aisling O’Neill, Nuala Carey. Also at the lunch were Marketing Manager Marks & Spencer’s Ireland Carmel Breheny, Michael Wright, Gary Kavanagh to name but a few of the social faces who were enjoying the afternoon.
Mary Flaherty CEO CARI commented “Our fundraising events are more important than ever this year. Despite an eighteen month campaign for more funding to meet the needs of the children on our list TUSLA the Child and Family Agency failed to respond in any meaningful way. They have recruited co-ordinators, social workers, many managers but not a single additional therapist has been provided. There are more children waiting for CARI services than there were at Christmas last year, the figure is shocking it is now at ninety two. If the state continues to fail these children we must rely on individual and corporate support and here today we ask you again to do more if you or your company can by supporting our ‘Sponsor a Child’appeal.
CARI is a voluntary organisation, founded in 1989 to provide therapy and counselling to children and teens that have been affected by Child Sexual Abuse and support for the non-abusing members of their families. CARI’s focus is to address the long-term needs of children and teens that have experienced sexual abuse. This coupled with the fact that they also treat the family and the non-abusing siblings makes their approach unique. CARI also provides a Lo-call National Helpline and a court accompaniment services for child witnesses. With limited government funding to date CARI is entirely dependent upon its fund-raising efforts in order to continue to offer these vital services. The CARI Annual Lunch raises in excess of €30,000 annually. This year CARI celebrates 25 years offering these vital services to children. Since 1989 over 50,000 appointments have been provided to children and families; over 30,000 calls have been received by CARI Helplines, 1000’s of children have recovered their childhoods and more recently we have accompanied 100’s of children attending court. Money raised from today’s Lunch is essential to support these services into the future.
