The iconic Oyster Tavern welcomed a sea of famous faces last night at the highly anticipated official launch of the two storey venue. The ‘who’s who’ of the Irish social scene and sports world descended on Patrick Street to toast the new bar. Stars such as Pippa O’Connor and her husband Brian Ormond and rugby legend Peter O’Mahony all donned the red carpet on the night and enjoyed an evening full of surprises as the new Oyster Tavern was finally revealed after a €1.5million makeover.

The renowned 18th century bar underwent a significant transformation after being taken over by well-known publican and restaurateur Alan Clancy, who also owns House in Limerick, 37 Dawson Street, The Oak and House in Dublin.
The official launch marked a very significant day for Cork city centre as The Oyster Tavern is part of the €50m redevelopment of The Capitol which has brought a breath of fresh air and energy to Cork’s city centre.

The Oyster Tavern will create in excess of 40 new jobs and the venue, along with the new retail outlets in The Capitol building, will bring some much needed footfall to this end of the city. The two storey bar and restaurant will cater for all tastes; the downstairs bar will lend itself towards a more chilled and laid back customer, while the upstairs bar will host a party atmosphere with food, DJ, cocktails, and dance areas. The Oyster Tavern will open daily serving great drink and great food and will open late every Friday, Saturday, and Bank Holiday Sunday night.
