A young man died after a being knocked down in County Louth in the early hours of this morning.

The man, aged in his 20’s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was hit by two cars while trying to cross the road Old Newry Road in Dundalk at around 3.15am, according to the Irish Daily Mirror .

Motorists are advised that the road remains closed this morning to facilitate a Garda Forensic Collision Investigation.

In a statement this morning, a Garda spokesperson said: "A pedestrian in his late 20s had been fatally injured in a traffic collision at Dundalk, Co Louth.

"The incident happened at 3.15am on 21st October on the R132, Old Newry Road, Dundalk.

"The man was struck by two cars, he crossed the road and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers of the cars were uninjured.

"The road at the scene is closed to facilitate an examination of the area by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators."

The identity of the victim has yet to be released by Garda officials in the area.
