Naomi Campbell Speaks Out Against Racism Within The Fashion Industry
As London Fashion Week continues, some of the hottest players in the fashion industry are out in force, strutting their stuff on the catwalk, showcasing their new season designs or showing off their own style status on the front row. But one of the biggest names in fashion, Naomi Campbell, has used the high profile event as a platform to speak out about racial discrimination within the fashion industry.
Speaking to Sky News, the supermodel admitted that after reading a number of articles recently on the subject of models of diversity, she feels “what casting directors and designers think of booking models of colour is absolutely apalling”, adding “it shouldn’t be that way in 2013”. The 43 year old also revealed her plans to “speak out” on behalf of the models who may be victims of racism within the industry.
Sky News online revealed that at last season’s New York Fashion Week, thirteen of the catwalk shows shockingly featured “no model of non-white ethnic background”.
