Here Amy tells us the secrets to her success…….

Tell us a bit about you

I’m extremely passionate about the beauty industry. I decided two years ago that after a decade in the industry, I would open up my own salon. Last week we expanded by opening a day spa upstairs in Amia Beauty.

How did you get your foot in the door of the beauty business?

I started working in a beauty salon  when I was 19, after my daughter was born. I went on to manage the salon for 6 years, until the it closed down. I later worked in a salon in Australia for 6 months, where I got some amazing experience. I had built up such a big clientele base that when I came back, I decided to just go for it!

What makes you so passionate about the beauty industry?

The first thing that makes me so passionate is that I love people. Whether someone comes in for a €10 treatment or a €100 peel, I believe that every single person should be treated the same, and receive the same quality of service. We’re a very happy, friendly salon to come into. The girls here are a proper team, and everyone gets on great. They are as driven and ambitious as I am, so we all get on really well.

What’s your favourite part of your job?

My favourite part of my job is making people happy.

What’s been your biggest achievement to date?

My biggest achievement to date is opening up the salon as a single mum. Opening up the spa upstairs was also a huge achievement. It was great to see all of the support from people who sent flowers and cards and were genuinely happy for how well the business has done in the past two years.

What is your biggest motivation?

By biggest motivation is definitely my daughter Mia. She’s fantastic! That’s where the name ‘Amia’ came from. It’s my name and her name combined. It’s also a french word that means harmony and balance. She goes to school down the road from us here and she thinks she’s famous because the salon is named after her!

What’s makes Amia Beauty unique?

I would definitely say that the atmosphere and ambiance in Amia is different to anywhere else. We also make sure that our beauticians stay with the client for their full treatment. If they are getting a face mask, the beautician will be there to provide a hand massage – I’d hate for someone to come in and spend their money to be left in the room alone for 15 minutes. 99% of the time, our client reviews are 5 Star,  and we take great pride in that.

What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in your career?

I guess i’ve probably learned that what you put out into the world is what you get back. I give out 100% every day, and I guess that’s what the clients see. You make your own luck, and I’d hope for it to continue.

What’s your next big goal?

My next goal is to get the upstairs salon running as well as down stairs has. I also have an idea for a new product that I’ll be working on in the new year. As well as that, I would love another salon in time. I’m full of ideas and plans! I’d be very driven and ambitious, but more to see what I can achieve rather than to see what money I can earn.
