RSVP’s One to Watch: Fiona McNamara
In this weeks One to Watch, Make up artist Fiona McNamara chats to RSVP’s Mikie O’Loughlin
Firstly, tell us about yourself?
My name is Fiona Mc Namara, I am a 22 year old national award winning make-up artist. I have a studio in Limerick but I am mainly freelance travelling throughout Ireland. I have been in the make-up industry for several years now and I specialise in Airbrush HD makeup and hairstyling.
Where did your passion for make up come from?
I have always loved makeup since I was younger. In my teen years I had really bad acne so I had always relied on makeup to conceal any blemishes. I would research a lot of different product and I used to find it so fascinating how some products could make an incredible difference to the look and feel of my skin. Teaching myself different tricks to conceal them without applying too much makeup. I’m also very passionate about art so I feel I bring my creativity into the makeup.
What was the first product you ever bought?
I think the very first product I bought was in the Clinique counter in Brown Thomas when my Mom brought me in to get the right shade of tinted moisturiser.
How did you get involved with Suzanne Jacksons fashion days?
I first meet Suzanne at the Ultimate Live wedding fair in Limerick. On the day I was doing makeovers on three lucky brides-to-be, using Airbrush HD make-up and Suzanne fell in love with the flawless finish. Suzanne has always been such a big role model for me as well as been a huge inspiration in the Irish beauty industry. It has been so encouraging to see her passion and determination which has helped her business blossom to where it is today and I’m sure it will only be getting bigger.
What are your other hobbies and interests? How do you de-stress?
I love to head out for a run in the fresh air whenever I get a chance. In the week days when I’m in cork I love to head to the gym in the evenings. I find it really relaxing and de-stressing. I also love to go horse riding it has been another passion of mine since a young age.
You’re also in college in Cork? How do you juggle it all?
I’m in my final year this year studying Contemporary applied arts in Crawford College of Art and Design. It has got a bit tougher time wise this year but fortunately I have my two sisters Niamh and Aoife and the three of us work really well together as a team.
Who would you say is your biggest idol?
My dad is my biggest inspiration always so positive. He runs his own successful business, so he knows all the ins and outs of starting up a business from scratch. He has always encourages me to do what I love to do.
What are the main items we should have in our make up bags this time of the year?
This time of year I would definitely recommend Strobe Cream from MAC it is really moistening and will keep your skin from looking dull in the cold weather. I am also loving Inglot sparkling dust, it can be used for a number of different things. Brilliant for highlighting checks, brow bone and can also add a nice glow to the body.
What are your favourite brands to use?
For lipstick and foundations I love MAC make-up. For eye shadows MAC are such good quality and long lasting I also love the pigments in Inglot. In powders Balm, Ben Ney and MAC again are the ones I love and always use. I am also so excited to get the SoSueMe contour palette if its going to be anything like the quality of her nail varnishes its going to be amazing.
Airbrush seems to be the next big thing, tell us about Airbrush HD make-up?
Airbrush Make-up is absolutely amazing I cannot recommend it enough. It is a lightweight makeup applied through an air gun machine that produces a thin, even layer of makeup and creates a matte finish. Finish can be thin or heavy depending on the application. It does not seep into your pores so your skin can breath as well as it lasting twice as long as normal foundation. Perfect for a bride on her big day.
