RSVP’s One to Watch: Yasmine Keegan

In this weeks One to Watch, RSVP’s Mikie O’Loughlin chats to rising star on the modelling scene Yasmine Keegan.

Firstly tell us about yourself?

My name is Yasmine Keegan and I am a fifteen year old student living in Onslow Gardens in the suburbs of Cork City. I attend Colaiste Chroi Naofa secondary school in carrig na bhear and the moment I am studying for my Junior Cert with the help of my parents Kieran and Aundrea and my two sisters Taylor and Tiana.

I am a person who absolutely loves to represent myself well and look amazing at all times, I don’t just like fit in I like to stand out in a crowd but underneath all that I am definitely a daddy’s little princess. I adore fashion but my trend is definitely unique and that is what makes me stand out from everyone else. As my mom always told me “dress to impress”. I have recently been given the opportunity to join with Upfront Models an agency in Co. Kerry and I am over the moon, it is just so exciting for a 15 year old girl to be given this chance. I still cannot believe it. I was booked for one of the biggest shows of the year which was a wedding fair held in the INEC Killarney. When I walked down the catwalk I knew there and then this was for me. I have been told by my agent that I have a beautiful unique look and that the sky is my limit so here is to my future.

Where does your passion from modelling come from?

My passion for modelling definitely comes from my mum, Aundrea  At the age fifteen just like me, my mum was modelling with a Cork agency, she used to do a lot of photographic and ramp modelling. When I was little my mum used to always show me her portfolios and I used to be in awe at her pictures. I always had it in my head that someday I would be a famous model like Elle Macpherson or Naomi Campbell.

When did you first start?

I was introduced to modelling at the age of 14 but my passion for modelling was long before that as from a small girl I loved the camera. My parents started to get me photo shoots and then I uploaded some shots on social media and that’s when it all began. Photographers and make-up artists started contacting me from all over the country and now I have lots of shoots under my belt.

Who has influenced your ambition the most?

The person who has influenced me the most is my best friend Nathan Adams. He has watched over me and put me on the right road from the day I started. He has given me great advice about clothing, photographers and agencies and I will be forever grateful to him.

What has been the highlight of modelling for you so far?

The highlight of modelling so far has been meeting all the other models behind the scenes and wearing all different items of clothing from different designers, but the best thing of all is walking the catwalk in front of hundreds of people, I just get an amazing feeling from it.

What are your hobbies and interests?

From the age of seven I have been going to Ballingcollig Gymnastics Club in Co. Cork. I have travelled all over the world to places like Geneva, Portugal, London and Bristol to represent my country in high standard competitions. I have been selected on two occasions for the Irish team and I have  numerous All Ireland and European medals to my credit. At weekends I organise and promote teenage events for NAP (Nathan Adams promotion) as I love to socialise and meet lots of new people.

What has been the best advice you have received?

The best advice I have received is to always be myself, work hard and look great at all times. Take one step at a time and hopefully I will make it to the top.

Who would you say is your biggest idol?

For me, it has to be Rita Ora, she is an amazing person with a very strong sense of style. She has a beautiful foreign look to her and I have been told that I have a very strong resemblance to her features.

Where do you like to shop and who are your style icons?

I like to travel to Dublin and Kildare Village. In Dublin there are so many shops to choose from I am spoiled for choice and I always seem to find that something special and unique for me. I have a great eye for colour and patterns and I always like to take risks and bend the rules with my style, just like one of my favourite style icon Pia Mia. She is an amazing singer, song writer and models for an agency called Guam. Her sense of style really does stand out to me because she can put outfits together effortlessly and she can still look absolutely stunning.

What are the top make up tips have you received along the way?

My top tips would be

1 Foundation: Use your fingers to apply your foundation if you want sheer coverage and a brush if you want a more polished look.

2 Blush: when applying blush, first smile then start on the apple of the cheek, blend the blush back towards the top of the ear, then down towards the jaw line.

What are your hopes for the future and what is your ultimate goal?

By the time I celebrate my 18th birthday I hope to be well  established in the modelling industry, mixing with other well known models from home and abroad. My ultimate goal would be to travel the world by storm and do top events like Paris or Milan, so look out for me as the sky’s my limit.
