RSVP’s Women of Style: Fiona McNamara

In this week’s RSVP Women of Style, RSVP’s Blathin de Paor chats life, career and style to make-up artist Fiona Mc Namara

Your path into the industry…

I have always been a very creative person. I enjoyed spending time on painting and drawing. The summer after my Leaving Certificate, I trained in the LA Academy in Dublin to become a professional makeup artist and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Learning amazing techniques, tips and tricks and meeting some of the top makeup artists has been a particular highlight.  I kept furthering my knowledge adding new courses to my list such as specializing in Airbrush HD makeup and hairstyling. That September I started in Crawford College of Art and Design in Cork studying Contemporary Applied Arts and I am now in my final year. I love mixing my creativeness into the makeup application.

Your greatest achievement to date…

One of the stand out achievements has been winning the National Bridal MakeUp Artist of the year 2015 with the Vtct professional beauty, It was an absolutely amazing achievement and really pushed me to go further. Another massive achievement to date has been working alongside the stunning Suzanne Jackson from SoSueMe on numerous dates. Suzanne is such an amazing and inspirational person, so driven and just great to be around. We are always doing something new and exciting between different events around Ireland. Being interviewed by the gorgeous Lisa Cannon on Xpose was amazing. Becoming a brand ambassador for Caylin Cosmetics Ireland, which is an absolutely brilliant brand. I will be doing a makeup demo at the Irish Beauty Show 2016 for Caylin, so I am looking forward to sharing all my tips and tricks.

Your style…

I love being comfortable in what I’m wearing. For day to day wear I love wearing a good quality pair of jeans, my two favourite brands are TopShop ‘Jamie’s’ and River Island Molly’s’ matched with a comfortable pair of runners or boot shoes for this time of year. Work wear, I love to wear a dressy top matched with jeans and boots, one of my favourites being the black thigh high boots they just instantly add that finished look and are so comfy for a long day’s work. For evening occasions I am a huge fan a jump-suit, knee length skirts and dresses. I have a lot of similar items in my wardrobe that I feel work well with my body shape. I buy most of my clothes from Zara, Asos, Topshop and Missguided.

Your style icons…

My style icon would have to be Olivia Palermo, I love the simplicity of her style, she keeps it really chic, but giving an edge of sexiness and elegance to it. She mixes feminine classics with contemporary cuts, often pairing vintage dresses with color-blocked blazers, Balancing uptown- downtown perfectly, never having too much going on at once. She would definitely be my go-to for inspiration.

Your favourite piece…

Oh where to start I love to add a bit of jewellery to all my outfits, one of my pieces is my Micheal Kors watch. It has a rose gold rim and black leather strap, which goes perfectly with everything. Other favourites are my Michael Kors rose gold stud earrings and a gold clutch bracelet with rose gold studs. They’re all really simple and just add a bit of glam to the outfits. My favorite piece of clothing is definitely my black jumpsuit I got in Topshop. It is so comfy and classy. It’s wearable for all types of events, so easy to dress up or down with a pair of heals.

Your skincare routine…

I always make sure to wash off my makeup at night, it’s a must. For my nightly skincare routine I love using Dizzolv’It (makeup melt cleansing balm) by Cailyn cosmetics. Followed by Nip+Fab face wash or sometimes, a scrub when I feel my skin needs a deeper cleanse. I love using a good hydrating moisturiser at night time, at the moment I am using the Bioderma intensive moisturiser as I do have combination/dry skin. In the morning I use my Nip+Fab face wash, clinique eye cream and moisturiser and occasionally the Lancome flash bronzer,

Your favourite products…

The best and quickest makeup remover ever has to be Dizzolv’It (makeup melt cleansing balm) by Cailyn cosmetics it’s amazing it does exactly what it says. My favourite face scrub is from the Botanics range, it is a microdermabrasion polish which helps to give a more radiant glow to the skin. For a quick and smell free application of tan the Soap & Glory “Righteous Butter” is brilliant and gives an amazing golden color. My favourite makeup product would be the MAC pro longwear conceal which gives amazing long lasting coverage. MAC strobe cream is another one of my all time favourites which adds a gorgeous dewy finish to the skin. I find the lip pencils from the p.s range in Penneys brilliant and so affordable.

Your ‘me’ time…

I love to just get lost in my art work, in college I am currently creating head pieces. I love putting all my passion for beauty and art work together creating abstract head pieces. I love working with a mix of different materials.

Your Hobbies..

Whenever I get a chance I love to head back to the horses. We have alway had horses in my family, I would have grown up riding and competing in show jumping and working hunter traveling around to different counties. Also competing in triathlons where you would do a run, swim, shot and horse riding. I thoroughly enjoyed competing in shows. College and work have gotten busier over the years so all that has taken a step back, but hopefully I’ll get back into it soon again. So anytime I have off I like to spend with them. Misty our grey connemara has been in the family since I began horse riding, she is an amazing jumper and I have won several competitions on her around Ireland.

Your favourite restaurant…

can be very picky with restaurants as I am not very experimental with my food choices. In Limerick I love the Jasmine Place,Tuscany Bistro and the Hamptons. In Cork I love SoHo and CoqBull. These would definitely be my favourite restaurants they all have a brilliant atmosphere and food is amazing every time.

Your stress-busting tip…

Whenever I get a chance I love to head to the gym in the evenings, even just for a 45 minute class, it’s great to give you that extra boost and clear your mind from all thoughts. If I have enough time, a hike or walk outdoors is so refreshing just getting out in the open air. I find it a great distraction from social media, as it can be very overwhelming at times with emails, facebook, snapchat and instagram it’s easy to just get lost in it which can be very tiring process. After a good workout I am more relaxed and can focus on the important tasks that need to be completed. It is definitely my go to for being stress free.

Your favourite holiday destination…

In winter it would be skiing on the slopes of Andorra between France and Spain, then for the summer months travelling around the most amazing tropical islands of Thailand.  Andorra was an amazing ski location, you could ski from the France border all the way over to the Spain border. Up on the slopes at 10am till about 5 in the evening, you would be wrecked by the evening so it’s definitely a jam packed holiday. The views are just breathtaking, food and drink are to die for. Everything is also very affordable as it is a tax free country. There are loads of more relaxing options as well if you would just like to be in the snow for the winter months. Thailand was the complete opposite but still with loads of amazing things to do, between snorkelling, hiking, boat trips, scuba diving, tuc tucs, religious chapels and cooking classes it was a trip of a lifetime. I traveled throughout Thailand for just over three weeks. Each island is so different and has its own unique thing. It was definitely a trip to remember, really relaxing and everything was so picturesque. .

Your style…

For my interior style I love to keep it very simple, using mostly white with rose gold and greys. Adding in faux furs and mirror effect furniture. I love that really simplistic and elegant style in homes. Always adding in fresh flowers and candles to rooms, think it makes a massive difference to a feel of the home.

Your favourite piece…

My favourite piece would definitely be my desk. I love to keep to it simple and fresh, and always having fresh flowers. Under my desk I have a zebra print rug which just adds that bit of vibrance to the room.
