Every parent has the fear or worry that their child may choke while eating or struggle for breath while taking a drink, but what you do in that situation is even more of a worry.

Now Channel Mum and St. John’s Ambulance have teamed up and are releasing different sets of videos to help parents deal with an unwanted emergency.

They say: "22% of parents don’t have any baby or child first aid knowledge, yet one in five parents will be faced with a medical emergency at some stage.” Are you one of these parents?

“It’s essential that all parents learn what to do if a child is choking, having a seizure or suffers an allergic reaction, plus how to perform basic CPR, how to treat a burn and when a sick child requires urgent medical attention.”

According to the Irish Mirror, Isobel Kearly, National Training Officer at St John Ambulance, said:

“These videos are a great starting point for parent first aid and highlight how easy and quick it is to learn these essential life-saving skills.

“For parents looking to further their first aid knowledge, our basic first aid courses take between just three to six hours and provide hands on experience.

“Once parents know what to do, they have the confident to take action quickly and are able to act if needed.”
