Sharon Ní Bheoláin wants to quit the Six One news
Sharon Ní Bheoláin wants to quit the Six One news after nearly 24 years with the national broadcaster.
There are big changes ahead in Montrose this winter.
Ni Bheolain reportedly wants to follow in her co-stars footsteps by defecting from the flagship news show.
Bryan Dobson is moving from the news to RTE Radio One’s Morning Ireland.
Sharon, aged 46, wants to change up her role at the station.
A source told the Sunday Independent: “It’s well known in the newsroom that Sharon has been asking for a change for the last few years.
“For a long time she has been asking management to release her from Six One newsreader duties. She has made it known she wants to step away from the cameras after 23 years in the spotlight.
“She would prefer to remain behind the camera for a while, to concentrate on features and documentaries.
“She has been in the same position for over two decades, so naturally she is longing for change.”
It is still unclear who will replace Dobson on the Six One news.
Names like Ray Kennedy and Claire Byrne were previously linked to the role.
