Spa Spy: Lusty Beg Resort, Fermanagh
This month, we sent RSVP’s Mikie O’Loughlin out to research a fine relaxation retreat in the beautiful Lusty Beg resort in County Fermanagh.
From the moment I stepped off the ferry on to Lusty Beg Island in Co. Fermanagh I was mesmerised by the view, atmosphere and overall feeling of tranquillity. Instantly, I felt like I had been transported into a world far removed from the hustle and bustle of everyday working life.
Amongst the multitude of trees, grass and water, I almost believed that I had gone from the northern Irish countryside into the set of an old-style movie, complete with unspoiled scenery and perfectly preserved nature. The peaceful escape boasted alternative accommodation, moving away from large hotels where it is easy to feel lost and unknown. Lusty Beg offers beautiful cabins, chalets and houses and something away from the ordinary.
The spacious, warm cabin overlooked the stunning and serene lake, and with a pristine view just sitting in front of the warm fire, I felt peaceful and content. This type of accommodation really allowed for comfort and luxury while still being in the beautiful surrounds of pure Irish nature.
The warm spa was a welcome treat from the harsh Irish winter outside; the cheerful staff and cosy building made for a simple but thoroughly enjoyable experience. I opted for a sea salt scrub as I wanted to try something new. It certainly was an experience like no other! I drifted in and out of sleep as the sweet aroma filled the room and I felt like the therapist was releasing my bad skin and replenishing my body. The treatment really relaxed me but still left me feeling regenerated and vibrant.
As the salt granules massaged my skin, I felt instantaneously at peace, letting the Voya products work their magic. After I was scrubbed from head to toe, it was time to arise from my slumber to shower off the salt in anticipation of a full body moisturise. After the process I felt like a new man! The restaurant in the resort was also out of this world, with a wide range to choose from on the extensive menu. There was something to suit all taste buds, even picky aul me!
While Fermanagh may seem like a trek across the country, it is just a hop, skip and a jump from some of Ireland’s main cities and towns. This tranquil paradise has something for everybody and it is suitable for a self-catering family break, romantic vacation for two or even that girls weekend you have been trying to get organised.
THE HIGHLIGHT: The location was unlike anywhere I had ever been before. Completely surrounded by water and nature, it was like I had dropped off the face of the planet and landed in Irish heaven.
TOP TIP: Get there early, there is so much to do and see while on the island. You really have to experience everything the destination has to offer.
WHAT YOU WILL LOVE: Whether you are going with the family or your other half, you will love the accommodation which is suitable for everybody’s needs. The island has a number of food and drinks options as well as the option of going self-catering.
