It has emerged that three generations of one family were killed in the horrific crash which took place in Mayo on Monday.
And further tragic details have emerged as it has been revealed that not only did the mother killed in the accident leave behind three more children, Marcella Wilson had recently recovered after battling a brain tumour.
According to the Irish Independent, Marcella was killed along with her mother Mary Ann and her youngest child seven-year-old son Seán in the crash on Monday.
The family were on the way to a hospital appointment and reportedly missed the bus in Castlebar and instead decided to drive to Claremorris, when their car collided with a truck.
A friend told the publication, the children who are aged just 16, 14 and 9 are being cared for by family, saying:
“Marcella had a tumour, but it never let her get in the way of looking after her kids. She was recovering from cancer and was happy out – she loved and lived for her children. The strength of the woman was remarkable – she was an inspiration”
