Three rescued from River Boyne after boat overturned
Three young people were rescued from the River Boyne last night after their boat overturned.
The Drogheda Coast Guards were called after a small boat failed to return to land, and the three youths aged 22, 24 and 25-years-old were found clinging to an upturned boat about one mile east of Mornington.
According to the Irish Independent, the three were rescued around 10pm and rushed to hospital with suspected hypothermia where they remain this morning.
The publication report that that Drogheda Coast Guards revealed that none of the three had been wearing life jackets and “were extremely lucky to survive this incident”, stating:
“Only for the quick thinking of the caller and the rapid response from all agencies involved were we able to bring this incident to a successful conclusion.”
