Proprietor Pamela Morrissey has become a household name during this time and today is the regular hair stylist on RTE’s Today Show with Maura and Daithi. Just recently returned from London fashion week, where Pam was chosen to work with Bumble and Bumble on styling the stars.

Here she shares her ten commandments of hair care guaranteed to make you look your best.

Ten commandments of hair care

Thou shalt not expect the hairdresser to exactly replicate the hairstyle of the celebrity pictured in the magazine.

Have realistic expectations about your hair. Every head is 100% unique so colours and styles will vary on each head. Take your inspiration but remember there is no one like you! As Oscar Wilde said Be yourself; everyone else is already taken!

Thou shalt always brush hair before washing!

Shampooing tangles so if you haven’t brushed once the towel comes off you will have a mass of tangles which leads to breaking and snapping EVERYTIME. Brushing takes 20 seconds. Remember that damaged or fragile hair doesn’t have that healthy bounce and has a hard time holding texture or colour.

Thou shalt always always, always, always condition hair.

Even fine and or greasy hair benefits because conditioner is responsible for sealing the hair after the shampoo opens it to clean it. Without conditioning hair will be sensitive, fly away and can appear dull. Use a conditioner light enough for your hair type and keep away from roots by an inch.

Thou shalt never leave the salon without styling tips!

Your stylist won’t have the time or inclination to give you a masterclass on perfecting a bouncy blow-dry but she or he will be happy to impart expert tips such as be gentle when drying your hair off unless you unless you want to look like Beatle juice. Make sure the air is going in the same direction as the hair so it will be much easier to style later. Observe what the stylist is doing and try to recreate it at home. Another good tip is when finished blow drying put a tinsey wincey bit of body lotion into your hands, rub all around your finger tips and palms and graphic the ends of your hair with it, this stops static and will give your cut back its definition. There's a professional product by bumble and bumble called brilliantine if you want the pro version of this. So instead of talking about the weather or holidays talk about your hair and how to master it!

Thou shalt always use hair products to achieve salon like results.

Whether its styling lotion to create the look, repair blow-dry serum to make stressed hair look healthy, a protective primer to shield against heat products or UV rays or simply a temporary root concealer spray always take advantage of products that will make your hair look fabulous. Use moisturiser, concealer, foundation and contouring shading to make your face look its best so do the same for your hair.

Thou shalt arrive to the salon at the appointed time & Thou shalt feel free to see another stylist.

Turning up late not only means that you may not maximise the time allocated with the required stylist, it also means that the salons times will be thrown out for the rest of the day and for the rest of the clients. You don’t want to put your stylist under pressure – ask yourself who works to the optimum of their ability when they are under pressure. If you are running late call your stylist so they can readjust their appointments.

If you decide at some stage to see another stylist or salon, that’s fine, whether it’s just a one-off or for a longer term relationship. If this is the case, there is no need to cross the street to avoid your previous hair stylist! They won’t be embarrassed so why should you be! Although I have super strong relationships with many of my clients I realise that we are not married and therefore don’t feel a sense of betrayal if they start seeing someone else. And of course getting back together is always an option because there will always be a welcome with no questions asked proving most stylists do favour open relationships! (with their clients anyway!)

Thou shall keep the hair stylists number on speed dial & use immediately on discovering lime in the home water system or worse in the hair!

If your hair has come under attack from lime it will start to appear stiff and may develop a green tinge. Your stylist can repair this with special treatments and recommendations to prevent it from reoccurring such as this such as using filtered or bottled water for the final rinse, so that it doesn’t built again.
Thou shalt share your dissatisfaction with your hairstylist before Facebook.

If you are not happy with your hair remember the Facebook support team are not going to fix your hair anytime soon. A good stylist knows how personal your hair is and will not be offended, so be honest with them if you’re not exactly thrilled. They'll be more than happy for you to come back and fix it, after all you wear it every day!
Thou shalt come out of one’s comfort zone once in a while and try something new.

New hairstyles are not just for major life changing events such as a relationship breakup or a new career. Channing your hairstyle can be empowering so don’t be afraid to try something new. A new cut or colour can take years off your appearance and can boost your confidence. Don’t get caught in a rut and end up fading into the shadows, step into the limelight and reinvent yourself with an energising, confidence inspiring new look. There is nothing as sexy as great hair so own it and work on it until you get it just right because you’re worth it!

Thou Shalt Cut Hair Long!

Yes that’s right, in order for you hair to grow long and healthy it needs to be trimmed every six to eight weeks to prevent it splitting at the tip. If you don’t catch it on time that split will travel up and break the hair. Don’t panic though you only need to cut it by about a quarter of an eyelash and in that time it will have grown by an inch, so you will still be well ahead.
